How can sport become a language for reflecting on history and contemporary society? Using football as a point of departure, this conversation explores the relationship between sport, politics and contemporary art, addressing colonialism, migration, identity, collective memory and social justice. Moderated by Fradida, whose own practice draws on football to reflect on Spain’s colonial history in the Rif region of northern Morocco, the discussion invites audiences into an open dialogue about the stories, histories and perspectives that shape culture today.

Painter and participatory artist Farida El Kaddouri explores colonial history, identity and collective memory through painting and public dialogue. Drawing from her Riffian heritage, she uses football as a visual language to translate complex historical narratives into accessible imagery.

Within FOR THE CULTURE, Farida presents work that reconsiders football as more than sport. By connecting familiar sporting imagery to histories of colonialism, migration and resistance, her practice demonstrates how popular culture can become a powerful tool for critical reflection and collective remembrance.
